BT are 3 times more expensive than SKY!? WTF?
Posted by Kushal | Filed under
This was interesting – BT tried to convince me that being with them would somehow make my connection more reliable – despite the fact that Broadbandchoices.co.uk rates them as one of the lowest in the UK for customer service! They charge 3 times the price and give a "free" BT Homehub and Accelerator – the Accelerator is £5 several websites and the Homehub is £90 from BT shop. So that's 24.99 * 12 = about £300. Take of £95 and you have £205 – 3 and a half times more expensive than the Sky option. SO sick of rip-off Britain..
We are now routing you to one of our chat team…
You are now connected with Barry
Barry: Hi, my name is Barry.I'm here to assist you with your BT order.
Barry: Can I please have your BT Telephone number & Post Code & House Number to check Broadband availability?
Kushal: xxxx xxxxxx xxxxxx xxxxxxxx
Barry: Thank you
Barry: How may I assist you with your order today?
Kushal: it's available 1.5MB it says
Kushal: I've been with Virgin/NTL for years and hate it! – when will the local exchange be upgraded to at least 4-10mb?
Barry: Well, we do not have update with regards to dates and months for upgrades, but what I can offer you is as an exclusive deal for BT broadband customers, I can offer you free BT broadband accelerator (when you sign up for BT broadband) and this may boost up the broadband speed to upto 1.5Mb.
Barry: Sounds good?
Kushal: so it would be 1.5MB plus another 1.5MB?
Barry: Yes thats correct. Through BT broadband accelerator.
Barry: We have a range of broadband options, so do you mind if I ask a few quick questions to make sure we get you on the right option?
Kushal: ok
Barry: Thank you
Barry: How many PCs do you need to run from this broadband connection?
Kushal: 3
Barry: Who will be using the new BT Broadband connection and what will it be used for?
Kushal: video streaming, gaming, general internet use – nothing special
Barry: Do you download/upload heavily OR mainly browsing and surfing the net?
Kushal: I would say quite heavily – I do a lot of photography and they're big files
Barry: It sounds like Option 3 would be a good package for you. It has unlimited download limits, McAfee security and a wireless BT Home Hub and Hub phone as well as included evening and weekend calls over the internet. It's our most popular package.
Barry: How does that sound?
Kushal: how much is it?
Barry: Option 3 is £24.99 a month on a 12 month contract.
Barry: OR
Barry: Option 3 is £18.99 for the first 3 months then £24.99 a month on an 18 month contract
Barry: What option would you like to go for?
Kushal: well I don't need mcafee as I have a Macs and an Xbox – and sky are doing unlimited usage for 6 months free then £10 a month – so that's average £5 per month for the year – do you have something more competitive?
Barry: BT never claim to be the cheaper provider on the market however BT does claim to provide a constantly fast and reliable service. BT customers receive a free wireless Home Hub, better than any other router offered, along with a free BT Broadband accelerator!
Barry: BT are the number 1 wireless broadband provider and have also won awards for best performing ADSL company twice in a row.
Barry: And I am sure you are looking for something reliable. Aren't you?
Kushal: that's doesn't make sense – everyone uses BT's network – how does it make it less reliable if I'm billed by sky?
Barry: Well thats coz BT and Sky are two different organisations – we are not the same.
Kushal: ok, I will have another look at the options on the BT site and get back to you. thankyou.
Barry: Thank you for chatting with me today, BT Values your feedback. Please click the "Close" button at top right to close the chat.
